Because he is doing what astute buyers do in a negotiation. Managin expectations and sending a message to the sellers that he won't pay x/y/z price.

I really wouldn't too much to what Brands says on certain things. It's all part of the game. The fact he said no business, while probably hours earlier he had put a big in to complete business illustrate that.

The only time I remmeber us saying we'd do loads of business was with Steve Walsh, and we royally messed it up (though strangely had this lad on loan).

And how did Ancelotti build his confidence up exactly? Was it dropping him after his first goal that did it? Or maybe that run where DCL didn't score for 10 games but Kean never got a start? Fact is, no manager trusted him to do a job up front for us. He knows where the net is, but he does very little else. That may well come in time, but it was a massive issue for us, and it's why he never became a fixture here.

The DCL thing is rubbish aswell. He was never really a favourite on here but he was given full support at games. People always appreciated his effort etc, they just wanted him to score more goals.

People's expectations of Kean were too high. The club didn't help themselves - or him - there because they made a massive deal of the signing and it being a coup. I think both the club and the fans expected him to be a hugely exciting talent, who even if he wasn't scoring many and had a few foibles, would leave us in no doubt that he was a future star. That's really not how it worked out though, some of his performances were absolutely appalling, both before and after that double sub.

If Zirkzee comes in then I think expectations will be a lot lower, and as long as he puts a shift in and looks like he wants to be here people will support him. Of course a couple of people will get on his back on here if he doesn't do much, and then others will make out like the entire fanbase boos his every touch and sends him bullets in the post, but that's par for the course.

There's a ruthlessness to Ancelotti that comes from being a "winner". What is interesting is that it goes far beyond the thinking of most fans (and I include myself very much in this).

We have become a club who's been very proud of giving young players a chance. It's important to our DNA. And lets be honest, selling them on once they've straightened their rough edges here to big teams to go and win trophies. He's not interested in doing that- hence his "I'm not here to develop players" comment. I took it to mean there will not be endless opportunities given to people to do what he wants them to do. We've seen it with Lukaku, Stones, Barkley, Rooney, Rodwell etc.

Kean I liked but again he was very rough. He wants someone to do the whole package and Kean wasn't really ready to do that. If we turn a profit on him, which looks likely we will, we will be doing well. No ideas on fees for this lad, but we might even be able to get him out of the profit of said deal.

Definitely has that Lukaku vibe of looking like it's cheating to have someone that massive in your side.

Watching that youtube video he reminded me more of Fellaini. Obviously the hair helps but also just the way he runs and controls the ball.

I always felt Fellaini was more productive when played off the striker.

Likened to Pierre Van Hooijdonk. What a player he was, always wanted us to sign him to play with Dunc and then wanted him again to rekindle his Forrest partnership with Campbell.

Sounds like an exciting deal if we can get him in. From the clips he looks quick, good feet and very composed. Just what we need to compete with Dom.
