Yep. Personally I always thought his best chance of being useful was when he very first came in. DCL was injured and we had games coming thick and fast, so I thought he might get games and contribute. I said at the time, when he didn't start at West Brom I thought that might mean he never started a game for us, because once people were back and the games were one a week I just didn't see him getting a chance. Who knows, things might change, but unless we have more injuries I think his entire Everton career might last a couple of hundred minutes.
It was not a great sign in all honesty. The one cavaet there might be, is that they ee him as a medium-long player, and are using this season to really build his fitness levels back up/getting him used to other players. It's not generally what Ancelotti does though, so it unlikely but possible.
And yes you're right on training. I saw some fella on social media who's involved in recruitment (and looks a lot at numbers) put a poll up asking whats more important, the scouting data or how they train. The results were about 50-50 which he was surprised about as he felt the recruitment numbers would be much higher. I don't really understand that at all. Training will be the biggest indicator you can give that you're going to be able to play. I think most of the United players of the 90's said their intragame trainign matches of older v younger lads in the mid 90's were harder than the games on a Saturday. Thats what a coach is going to put stock in.
At a much lower level, when I was at university, I captained one of the lower teams (we had 7) and ended up picking a number of players who ended up playing for the 1st 11. 3 or 4 came from a training drill I did against them, which was for about 5 minutes, and I just knew they were quicker, stronger and better than me.
