Well I guess that's that because you just said it. Mate, we are averaging over 2 goals per match allowed. Yes, the ENTIRE defense is the issue but Pickford is being almost completely absolved of any share of the blame.

Hahahahaha seems like it, as we have a thread full of people claiming he's the problem and Joel Robles would improve us.

Yes he is getting criticised, look how many people are on here saying Joel Robles of all people is better than him. It's going to be an absolute hoot going back through this thread in 2-3 years time when Pickford is England number 1 and Robles is seeing his career out at a middling Spanish 2nd division side.
There's abar 5 posters on here, myself being one, who have actually criticized pickford. Everyone else thinks he is the holy grail of goalkeeping.

Don't think any of us whom criticized him think he won't improve or has scope to, but simply showing that it's one rule for one and another for the other.

When he makes a few costly mistakes to actually cost us games then I'll criticise him. I criticised his performance against Watford, you can go back and look if you want. But I'm not having someone point at a goals conceded column when we have the worst defensive options in the entire league, including 3 players who should no longer even be playing football, and telling me we need to change our goalkeeper.

Right, I made a large post some pages back completely dispelling this.

In short, Robles wouldn't have affected our season negatively whatsoever and was ultimately harshly treated after a great season in which he improved.

We splashed the cash big time overpaying for a keeper who has abar 4 clean sheets in his whole premier league career, and despite much room to improve and our need for a ling term goalie, perhaps the money would have been better spent elsewhere. Like with all the other signings we made.

Our goalkeeping options were Joel and Stekelenburg, of course we needed to buy a keeper, we needed to buy one before the start of last season and then we might have challenged the top 6 a bit harder. Absolutely not having that we didn't need a keeper, it was our number 1 priority. One (probably the only) thing I can credit the club on in the transfer window is they got that boxed off early.

Afternoon Toffees, there is a reason Joel Robles contract is up at the end of the season and why he is expected to leave in January for a minimal fee.

Thanks for listening.

There's also a reason he'll be 28 and has never been anything other than a back up his entire life.

For me, a goalkeeper performing better last season might have gained us 3 points overall.

The truth is our dismal form vs top teams, especially our away form to every team in general is what needed to improve in order for us to hit the top 6.

In my eyes the defence wasn't great last season, we just had a beast up front who we could rely on to kill off teams - that, and we defended with 10 outfield players at all costs.

I’m a fan of Joel, especially over our Dutch clown of a number 2 but at the end of the day, he’s not Jord.

Joel is a bang average Premier League back up, he's better than Stekelenburg who is absolutely terrible and was better than Howard who was a joke, but he is not and never will be up to the job of being a top level number 1.

yes C .. absolutely.

robles is a championship manager at best. and I wouldn't even say a top half championship side. Burton or someone like that.

Well he's a goalie not a manager like..

Robles won the fa cup final with wigan whilst keeping a clean sheet over man city lad

Haha, and what? Pickford kept a clean sheet against the world Champions on his international debut the other week, making two saves that Robles would have taken a month to get down to.
