Do I think Pickford is better than Southall? Probably not.

BUT… the fact that the conversation is even taking place… that the question can be asked without it being universally dismissed as insane… that is something we should be extremely thankful for.

Pickford is a keeper for whom top spot is - if not now but perhaps in time? - not 100% out of the question. Paul Gerrard could never say that.

Of course he isn't, and it's inconceivable I'll see a goalkeeper as good as Southall here again in my lifetime.

But - he's comfortably now (and I liked Nigel Martyn a lot) the best keeper we've had since Southall. You'd need to ask Joey, Eggs etc where he sits in the pecking order pre-Big Nev though as I'm too young to remember Gordon West et al

Newcastle save was Febs winner wasn't it? So this will be his March contender. If that save he done against Arsenal wasn't offside, he would have had 2 contenders for March.

A very bad mistake yes.

The problem is that if a keeper makes a bad mistake it gets capitalised upon.

An outfield player can make multiple errors without consequences

There is that difference though when Southall is mentioned. Just as i cant recall him ever dropping a cross. I cant recall him making a bad mistake or bad mistakes. Maybe ive just forgot them in time. But what i dont forget is standing in the Gwladys street at the start of every game for a good few years knowing we had the best keeper in the world. It wasnt even a debate.
Hard to describe but you sort of had that feeling you knew we were gona win with Nev in goal.

What a keeper Jordan Pickford is. He's made loads of match-winning saves in his time with us, makes me wonder how we'll replace him when he retires.

Put Keggers in the Arsenal backline for 90% of their games and see if that number remains at 15.
