2025/26 Jordan Pickford

Timing is everything… my son just sent me this

Pickford deserves a more successful Everton team, hopefully we're seeing that better team emerging right now. A few decent signings in the summer, we keep our key players and we move upwards and play in Europe.

Watching Pickford playing in Europe (the Champions League would be perfect) would be a dream.

We're blessed with our best goalkeeper since Southall

Do I think Pickford is better than Southall? Probably not.

BUT… the fact that the conversation is even taking place… that the question can be asked without it being universally dismissed as insane… that is something we should be extremely thankful for.

Pickford is a keeper for whom top spot is - if not now but perhaps in time? - not 100% out of the question. Paul Gerrard could never say that.

Looking down at the relegation battle from afar for the first time in a while and thinking about what made a difference for us.... Pickford is the number one on the pitch reason.

We owe JP a lot. He is one of the pillars of the clubs current status. I hope we can bring him the success he deserves in the next 2 or 3 seasons.

Back on form after the horror show at Arsenal

I can only recall that one bad game from him tho. Most games he has been immense. Easily one of the best goalies in the world right now. Definitely the best in the Premier League

He had a very good game at Arsenal, just made one bad decision (probably 2 inches away from being the right decision) and unfortunately it cost us.

Was it a horror show?

A very bad mistake yes.

The problem is that if a keeper makes a bad mistake it gets capitalised upon.

An outfield player can make multiple errors without consequences

Well, Southall's saves didn't just keep us in games - they won us titles.

We're all massively biased as Evertonians, and we love our players to be recognised, but I'll go to my grave knowing - not feeling - knowing that my favourite player was the best goalkeeper in the world at his best. And the fans of other clubs not only knew it, they were happy to make the same point. That's how good Southall was. Bruce Grobbelaar - massively underrated in his day due to his eccentric style - would tell the world after each derby how good Southall was. The only way Jordan can compete with that is to win a World Cup or, even harder, win trophies at Everton. That's the gold standard. But we are amazingly lucky to have him. We've got a top five world keeper and, sadly, we are not even top five in our own league. Enjoy him while we have him.

The only comparison between Southall and Pickford is both can pull off spectacular saves. Posted on here once that i'm sure it must have happened but i can ever remember southall not claiming a cross. I grew up thinking his hands were made of velcro. Southall dominated the box.
It isnt just Pickford. Southall all round was a different league to many.

What's the quote from Alan Ball when asked why didn't he win more domestic trophies replied saying "Just the world cup was enough, son"

Not saying I'm not absolutely desperate for Everton to win even one trophy atm, but if you're going to choose one trophy to win, the world cup would be #1 for most people.
Only if you’re English

If Pickford could dominate his box another team would have been in for him - His failure to catch or punch the ball out even in his six yard box is awful - Arsenal away last week he gave them that vital first goal - Jake O'Brien stated he apologised for that mistake - commetting - he not used to coming out that far for the ball in the air :D -

Big Nev was commanding in his box - Pickford may be a great shot stopper but it ends there - he has saved us many many times I agree with that ...
