2024/25 Jordan Pickford

This holds true for every single season too. He's consistently up and down which means he's average-ish. It's always been the case. I do think he's been slightly more consistent on the good side in recent years.
All keepers will be at fault for goals throughout a season.

Not that he has a huge amount of competition but Pickford has consistently been one of our best players over the last few seasons.

You're making the argument for why that second part doesn't matter at the same time that you're trying to defend him.

What frustrates me mostly is that he's so good at the difficult stuff and so bad at what should be easier. If he stopped being bad at those things so often he'd be really top level.

As I said before the goal today is really fundament and at a point where you have time to think and make sure you're doing the right thing! Guard the keepers side of the goal!

As a former amateur keeper at Mickey Mouse level, you HAVE to cover the non-wall side of the goal. If the ball goes over the wall into the net, not your fault. Your job is to ensure it doesn't go past your side. He broke the cardinal rule. Stick to the process.

It's like keepers not putting men on posts for corners and watching a ball trickle in at the far post. Put the men on the posts! If you do your bit, what happens is not your responsibility after that. Team effort. He tried to be an individual and sold himself and his team-mates down the river in doing so.

Holes in the wall are NOT his mistakes, however - unless he was dithering over numbers in the wall. Who broke from the wall for the goal?

Evertons number 1, Englands number 1, played in multiple World Cups and Euros.

I think, that makes him top level, no?

He’s not immune from criticism like but he’s certainly better than average and think he is one of the main reasons we’ve not been relegated.
Out of the top 5 leagues in Europe he actually ranks in at 125th!! his numbers are fairly average. Like the oilman says he can do the all the difficult stuff its the simple stuff he seems to mess up. Not entirely sure he has ever had a decent GK coach here tbh, Alan Kelly was there for ages and Pickford was quite erratic back then, then Dyche bought his mate from Burnley in, now Moyes has just got the guy who was previously our under 18's GK coach. Is he actually good enough? I look at the RS and they have Taffarel (ex Brazil national team keeper) and the USA national team GK coach.

Taffarel was bang average. I wouldn't see him as much of a standard.
