Jonny Evans. Strongly linked by proper newspapers. Hmm.

Assuming he comes for, lets say, 6m upfront, then is he ?

88 pages of mostly negative comments about him and the ones that are positive say he needs a run of games and a big CB next to him...

Eight million quid for an erratic, injury prone player in the last year of his contract. Looks like good business to me.

Snap the hand of them [Poor language removed]. As long as he leaves his missus at MUTV

Unless stones is leaving it looks like terrible business for everton as surely jags and stones would be first choice and 8m is a lot for am everton reserve.

It's the correct fee. He is capable of being a very good centre back. He's proven that before. And he's been very poor of late and is struggling to remain fit.

Think the fee is quite reasonable and hope this is true. Have nothing against Evans but it's the right move for him and the club. He can be an efficient defender, but just lacks the mental toughness when he's called upon to play a major role back there. We can't deal with this any longer - need a big bad [Poor language removed] back there who is not afraid of anything or anyone.
@Brownie

Van Gaal is really getting rid of all the crap. I used to think he would develop into a good solid defender for United but now he's 27 and still has big question marks about him.

£8m is a ok fee too

Really torn about this transfer. He has so much ability, but needs a kick up his backside once in while to get him performing. Fergie used to really unleash it Evans. Everton should have to pay a premium to get him, sell him at this price if it is anyone else.

Seems a very good bit of business by us if true, start proceedings with stones

If you get 8 million for him that is a brilliant deal for United.

Fantastic bit of business. I'm glad we're getting rid tbh.

Eh not bad if he can stay healthy but probably better veteran options out there. Hope it's 5m with add ons or something like that. Not too much money these days considering we got 6m for big Vic.

A season loan followed by free transfer would be brilliant

How much did first Cardiff then QPR pay for Caulker? How much did Hull pay for Dawson? Pretty sure a Championship club once paid 5m for a centre half, Matt Mills maybe? Point I'm making, 7/8m is nothing in the UK transfer market. Evans ticks all the boxes we should be looking for, is a good age etc. People would be creaming themselves had we got that Ogbonna lad who went to West Ham because he wanted to live in London but because Jonny Evans is called Jonny Evans everyone is slating it. And those who think RM is wasting 8m on a reserve are wide off the mark, we're clearly going with a back 3 this year. RM played it all the time with Wigan. Evans wouldn't be coming to sit on the bench when he was doing that at Utd

He was definitely highly regarded by SAF at the beginning of his career but NEVER a first pick.

Sunderland on loan when next to Nosworthy isnt really a barometer of how good he is.

As a centre back you need to be FIT not come off in games with knocks. He's another Gibson so a MAJOR risk and waste of wages.

Whenever he was in UTD defence we always had a chance.

He is SIXTH CHOICE centre back now behind Rojo,Jones,Smalling,Blackett and McNair. Thats before they sign Otamendi...

Comparing him to Cleverley is mental, Cleverley at worst is a consistent player to have in the squad who can play a variety of positions....Evans is a crock and a liability.

Romagnoli is being touted at €20mil which is £12.7mil (£4.7mil more than Evans) and is going to be Italys best centre back for the next decade...its not as if we have a choice of Dann/Ogbonna or Evans the GBP is high against EUR right now....we should be taking advantage.

ANY goodwill from current signings will EVAPORATE if we sign Evans. Martinez had better have a TOP CLASS eye watering quality playmaker in mind if we sign this chump.

These types of players are ones we should be selling not buying....

Edit: Romagnoli £14mil so £6mil more expensive. Thats the asking price and would be lower i imagine.

Massive difference in quality.

Amazing how you and others are comparing this to Ogbonna...i didnt want him and not many others did either!!!

Dawson/Caulker are both tug boats...probably the same level as Evans but less injury prone.

Its a "Global market" £8mil = €11.5mil EUR and that buys a good player....

Pointless signing, best to get a loan or a free instead OR spend more if needs be and sign someone decent.

Our fans are clueless when we are signing a player, 8 million is what you pay now, sterling went for 49 million, the price s have gone up, we saved money on del and it would be like 6 million with adds on, sterling was 44 not 49 in the end.
