I'd have believed that was Koemans reasoning a lot more if he hadn't done his best to knock Kenny's confidence all by himself by criticizing him in the press.
Kenny was on a confidence high after the world cup win, not even being in the squad for the league games or given any minutes in the cup games prior to Sunderland was probably not the best way to maintain that if Koeman was trying to so.
Or, to put it another way, unlike three or four of our younger players, Kenny wasn't sent out on loan which should have told him, and everyone else, that he had the confidence of the coaching staff who believed he was ready to be in and around the first team, whereas the likes of Dowell, Galloway, Browning, Pennington and Walsh have been farmed out for a bit.
Heh, if it was me, I'd have played him before the Sunderland game, but football fans are hopeless romantics and want to see young local lads playing every week. What seems to be happening with Kenny is pretty much exactly what happened with Davies last season. On the bench a bit, brought on, does well and will now hopefully get a few starts. Unless a youngster is massively talented, this is what happens at almost all clubs.
