He's definately got the makings of a solid full back. But the problem for him is Coleman is an outstanding player and he's not going to displace him in the near future.
It's unfortunate but Kenny is probably going to have to move on to get the first team football he deserves or he'll stagnate hanging round for the chance of the odd cup game as Colemans understudy.
It is an issue for the future sure. At the moment he isnt first team ready but he needs to be in and around the first team to develop. Next season as backup. Cup games and injury cover. Then see what happens.

Seamus will be 30 by end if next season and may need more rotation. Injuries crept up on Leighton. Same might happen with Seamus.
 
There is one reason: the fans will rip into him for any mistake no matter how small. Might be worth waiting till next season when hopefully the touchline walrus will be gone and we'll have a proper manager in who coaches properly and can get the young players in a coherent system.
I'd at least have him on subs bench. But your right that Seamus is probably the one untouchable at the moment.
