He was probably talking to Hertha over the last 6 months, which is his right but you can be sure he’s getting a better deal as a free agent than if he’d left a year ago.
If it was just about game time all along, he could have gone well before now, he’s got the best deal for himself by winding down his contract.
But good luck to him, it’s the right thing for him all round.

Good luck to the lad,yep pretty limited,but did always at least give it all and did appear to care
….never lacked for attitude, not forgetting he scored a winning penalty in a shoot out to win England Youth a major trophy. He was very good linking with Dowell in England U19 World Cup winning side. i think his lack of physicality is shown up in his transition to top flight open-age football.
Playing in Germany might be more comfortable for him.
