If I got offered £90k a week, to go and play for a team who would probably have Champs League footie in the next 3 years, I would accept in gladly. (If I was in lescotts situation, and not an Everton fan).

So to be honest, if he left, I wouldn't be too angry with him.

Yep, 'stability' is the watchword at Everton...until it doesn't suit. We need to keep the Jagielka/Lescott pairing together. Yobo is second rate and talk of slotting Rodwell in there is absurd at this stage.

I've read enough now, though, to believe the ground is being prepared for his sale. It'll all be Lescott's doing like. :dodgy:

Sorry DaveK but I'm not sure I agree with that.

He may not be world class but he's solid. Hardly second rate in my opinion.

Oh, and I really can't believe this thread is still running.

Well considering we have an endless thread posting about a certain player that 1/2 of us have barely saw play and can't afford, I think we've been well restrained with the Lescott talk :D

Yobo isn't 2nd rate either. He'd be in the starting 11 on every squad in the prem besides the big 4 (he's prob good enough to start on Liverpoo and Arse too).

Anyone else begining to hate the phrase Sky Sports undersatnds:

Manchester City are stepping up their pursuit of Everton defender Joleon Lescott, skysports.com understands.

City boss Mark Hughes is believed to have made the England international one of his top transfer targets as he looks to build a side capable of challenging for honours.

Lescott has established himself as one of the best defenders in the Premier League since his arrival from Wolves in the summer of 2006 and is now a regular in Fabio Capello's England squad.

Everton are keen to keep hold of the versatile defender and have warned City off the 26-year-old by placing a massive price-tag in the region of £20million on his head.

Manchester City chairman Khaldoon al Mubarak has admitted the club will not be held to ransom over their transfer targets and should they be priced out of a move for Lescott the club could switch their attentions to Arsenal ace Kolo Toure.

Toure, who has one-year left on his contract at Arsenal, has been a long-term target for City and was linked with a move to Eastlands in January.

City could rekindle their interest in Toure if they decide he would be a more viable option than Lescott.

Sky Sports like a lot of other media outlets, make up a lot of these stories cause there is little to report. I'll only worry about things when the club announces they have received a bid from City or whoever else.

What the feck does that mean? They've seen first draft of the fax to go to Everton? How can you step up? You either make a bid or not. Its either accepted or not.

Why don't they just say Man City are about to make a bid (which would be a none story) or keep schmum until they do. They seem to assume that Lescott will leave. Same when Villa were linked with him.

Anyway, until we receive a bid, we really don't know what will happen.

Get him sold . Christ whats up with you lot at all ? 20 fcuking million ? For Lescott ? I tell you what if we didnt accept we would never get a bid like that for him again . Jags is already as good if not better after one season .

I've always wondered this mate. What's so complicated and complex (as they make out), about sending a fax saying "eY SlIrrD, £20M for Lescott"??

On FM, it's the simplist thing in the world!

Jags is better yes.. but he's injured and is away until November at the earliest.. and Yobo will be gone during ANC..

Selling Lescott right now, would only mean we had to buy another CD and a LB to cover for him.. We probably won't get two such good players for £20M total in those positions, so we would have to settle for worse players there.. so... WHY sell one great player just to be able to purchase two worse players to fill his place???

It's called building a squad. Something we need to do.

Say we got Naughton, there's your left back cover.

Keeping your best players and bringing in one or two top players a season is also squad building

People are arguing that we will only bring in worse players if we sell Lescott. How on Earth will we bring in good enough players for our team? We don't have the funds to do so.

I dont think Citeh will pay £20million for Lescott.

Toure and Heinze are all up for grabs and would do a 10 times better job that what Citeh have now, and would be a fraction less than Lescott.

Also, I think we'd be flat out crazy to sell Lescott when Jags wont be back till November...we're only going to have 2 centre halves for around 12-15 matches.
