Player Valuation: £5m
But if it is the only way to improve the team, it has to be done. Of course in an ideal world, you don't sell a player like Lescott. But it's not an ideal world. Additionally, the people who think it might be a good idea to cash in if a silly amount was offered, aren't saying we sell so we can pay a debt or something. They're wondering whether Lescott being sold for £20m+ could bring a benefit that is unattainable should Lescott not be sold.
At the end of the day, we all want the same thing, which is for the club to progress. There is just a difference of opinion regarding how the club does that at this current time, with this current board.
EXACTLY. I would prefer to keep him, but the side needs to keep progressing and I don't see a way for that to happen outside of selling an asset that may be worth more to someone else than he is to us. A back two of Yobo and Jags seems solid (assuming no injury). Not as good as Jags and Lescott, but is that difference a 20 million difference? No.
And we MAY have the long term replacement for him already in Rodwell. I've only seen one person mention Rodders in this thread, but didn't Moyes say that he could be a top international center back like Rio? That is high praise. Even if he isn't ready yet, we could run out with Jags/yobo and Rodwell could be a fine injury replacement.
If Moyes feels like Rodwell has a higher ceiling than Lescott, selling while Lescott is at the top is smart AND it frees up space to let Rodwell grow into the role.
Now what we spend that 20 mill on? I'll leave that to Moyes. I'd like to see more coverage at center back, but I don't think a "replacement" for lescott is needed as I think between Yobo and Rodwell we already have one.
