But if it is the only way to improve the team, it has to be done. Of course in an ideal world, you don't sell a player like Lescott. But it's not an ideal world. Additionally, the people who think it might be a good idea to cash in if a silly amount was offered, aren't saying we sell so we can pay a debt or something. They're wondering whether Lescott being sold for £20m+ could bring a benefit that is unattainable should Lescott not be sold.

At the end of the day, we all want the same thing, which is for the club to progress. There is just a difference of opinion regarding how the club does that at this current time, with this current board.

EXACTLY. I would prefer to keep him, but the side needs to keep progressing and I don't see a way for that to happen outside of selling an asset that may be worth more to someone else than he is to us. A back two of Yobo and Jags seems solid (assuming no injury). Not as good as Jags and Lescott, but is that difference a 20 million difference? No.

And we MAY have the long term replacement for him already in Rodwell. I've only seen one person mention Rodders in this thread, but didn't Moyes say that he could be a top international center back like Rio? That is high praise. Even if he isn't ready yet, we could run out with Jags/yobo and Rodwell could be a fine injury replacement.

If Moyes feels like Rodwell has a higher ceiling than Lescott, selling while Lescott is at the top is smart AND it frees up space to let Rodwell grow into the role.

Now what we spend that 20 mill on? I'll leave that to Moyes. I'd like to see more coverage at center back, but I don't think a "replacement" for lescott is needed as I think between Yobo and Rodwell we already have one.

If Lescott goes and Jags is not available this side of Christmas, could Rodwell slot in? I think it is too soon for him, so we will need to replace Lescott - at a time when we have more pressing areas to invest in (right back and right mid imo).

I'd be tempted by 20 million but i'm not sure how much of it Moyes would see.

On the other hand i don't see why we should sell our best players if we want to progress. We have great stability because we keep the core of the team and it provides a good balance every season.

Obviously all this is blown out the water if Lescott wanted to go and i don't want a player that doesn't want to be at the club. Lescott has had his head turned, i'm pretty sure of it.

I would take Jo plus 15 million, i think Jo has a good amount of potential and we're short of striking options and i'm confident Moyes could bring in a capable replacement for under 10 million for Joleon. I want to keep him mind, so ignore this unless he goes.

Well it really is up to Lescott really, if they bid enough the club will sell, he knows he will get a fat wedge, so does he want to take a chance with City, a club that im fairly sure Jo has told him is pretty [Poor language removed]. Or does he want to take a chance with us, see if we can break into the top 4.

Im fairly sure if at the end he does stay, he will want some assurances from us that will be making progress. Thats what will settle it I think, he doesnt strike me as a greedy man, he wants to win things and he wants get on in life, if he can do that with us and hopefully earn a few bob, I think he will be happy.

It depends if we want to match his ambition really.

So basically you would take a ridiculous amount for him, that's never going to happen. Thats the equivalent of £33m for Lescott. Worth half of that at the most.

Only if you value Jo at the stupid amount of money City spunked on him. I would value him at about £8-9m.

No chance will Jo be a serious contender for a starting place at City next year, if you think that you're deluded. Caciedo, Bellamy, Robinho will all be infront of him and they're bound to buy a decent goalscorer this summer.

Hughes will easily palm him off to us if he can get the price down to 15 million.

An everton informant azzbot? Could be the canteen lady gobbing off, unlikely to be anyone in the know

He's worth more than £16.5m in todays market fgs, I personally rate him ahead of Terry (overrated muppet) and you'd have to pay at least £20m for Terry, Lescott is younger as well so I'd expect £20m

£18m is the price quoted mate.

And maybe - Just passing on what I've found.

And im not saying he will be in with a starting place - but why would they take a £10m loss on a player? Starter or bench warmer?

True Goat. Are the Express ones to fill there pages with made up transfer rumours though?

We aint selling our better players, Moyes is building a decent young squad, not dismantling one, Simples.
