Been expecting a bid for at least 1 of our 4 crown jewels so this so it comes as no great surprise. The £20m is an opening gambit in what could become a game of chess until 1st September.

Let's hope it doesn't. If we are going to sell,

1) tell them now that the price is £50m, and be willing to settle for nothing less than £40m including add-ons.

2) get it done before the season starts so that money can be re-invested. The worst thing about the Rooney deal was that on top of him leaving, there was no time for the money to be spent meaning that most of it...disappeared. I'm still laughing at our supposed bid for Riquelme on deadline day 2004 to make it look like the club wanted to spend the transfer fee.

Genuinely can't see all four of Stones, McCarthy, Barkley and Lukaku being with us for the start of the season.

Would have to agree with you. Throw mirallas in there just to be sure.Wouldn't it be a great statement of intent to keep all of them though. And bring in a decent cb and a top number 10. We wouldn't be far off top 4 then if all performed.
