Sad to think that he won the league in 1970, and less than 4 years later was the only one of the actual first team to be still playing in my first match, Burnley away in March 74.

Always intrigued by him playing in the number 10 shirt.

One of my favourite stories growing up was his goal at the Stretford end of Old Trafford august 69. Small pockets of blues going mad as he strode forward and powered in from miles out to give the travelling blues confidence that 1969-70 was going to be their year!

First time I saw John in the flesh was -v- Blackpool (A) in 1970. Him and the slightly younger Roger Kenyon were imperious as a central defence duo augmented by Tommy Wright and Keith Newton on either side of the two.

RIP John
RIP John.
One of the many top class players from a great Everton team , the 1st team I got to see as a kid .
