Excellent player and very underrated. One of my memories of him is when we played Chelsea in the 1970 championship winning season. He got a head injury and went off and reappeared wearing a skull cap. Also he was the club's 1st ever substitute.
I was at the youth cup final 3rd May 1965 one of my first games with my dad, I have the programme which was 3d in old money framed along with a team photo John Hurst became a great player for the blues.
Could play anywhere that man. The epitome of versatility and reliability. Nobody ever questioned this player, he was our number 10 and i for one will never forget him. From times never to be repeated both in football and life in general. So sad to read this news. RIP legend.❤
