Player Valuation: Free Transfer
Greetings Evertonians, a visitor in peace from the other Grand old team here. I was just very curious to gauge opinion among you guys of how John Collins got on when he was with you? He was my favourite Celtic player growing up and while I know he was very successful at Monaco, I never heard that much from him while he was at Everton. How did you lot rate him?

Cheers.

I rated him very highly, always tidy in possession and always prompting to create.

Sadly he had to leave due to broken promises of further squad investment. Many Evertonians hold that against him for some obscure reason.Although i do still wish that he had stayed and proven what a good player he really was.

Didn't he play for about 6 months with a broken toe?

It was also either him or Slaven Bilic who claimed they were told we were bidding for the likes of Ronaldo and Zidane prior to agreeing to signing

good player in a [Poor language removed] team, was always going to struggle to impress

He definatly had talent, our midfield was actually pretty decent back them to be honest. We didn't see enough of it though, mainly down to our defense bypassing the midfield every game.

One of my all time favourate Celtic players, he was amongst one of our better players in a bad team but in comparrison to how he was playing for us compared to how he played for Celtic and Monaco he was past his best!

A good player though!

I always thought Oliver Dacort was a far better midfielder in that team. In 4 years at Everton he only played well in the last 18 months. IMO!!

collins was a pretty boy. never overcommited in case he got his hair out of place, i have no doubt whatsoever that he would have a huge toiletry bag.

pre-match ritual.......

comb hair.......check mirror......double check..........raise eyebrows at self...........shave........comb hair.......check mirror......double check..........raise eyebrows at self...........manicure..........comb hair.......check mirror......double check..........raise eyebrows at self...........douse self in paco rabanne prior to match or maybe even mandate.........comb hair.......check mirror......double check..........raise eyebrows at self..........

repeat at half-time. plus whiten teeth.

The year we had the midfield of Collins, Dacourt, Hutchison and uhh humm Barmby it looked like we had a decent midfield for years to come. But like someone said we bypassed them and hit it long. I always remember Collins in an interview saying that it was a shame we played it long as the midfield could 'play a bit'.

Then we sold them all.

The end.

Biggest disappointment I've had with a player. He was fantastic for Celtic, I really expected loads. But by the time he got to Everton via Monaco he'd become accustomed to playing that crab football of going cross field and of passing it short without taking any responsibility for actually creating something. The Mr Professional act he had to go with it went down like a lead balloon.

I hear he had Hibs playing great football in the period he was manager at Easter Road, maybe we'll see him again some time as manager if he proves huimself elsewhere.

Always thought the class was there with Collins, but, like Reidy said, he never put himself about on the pitch. When that midfield was formed Everton had just broken up "The dogs of war" Joe parkinson, Barry Horne and John Ebbrell so we expected our midfielders to stamp their authority in games like they did and pressure teams but Collins was never that type of player

Cheers guys. Sounds like he never quite recaptured his Celtic form at Everton. Maybe age, maybe the influence of French 'crab football':D. Suppose, it's sometimes the case that players produce better form for their boyhood club than they ever manage to replicate.

Prime example - Wayne Rooney, 10 times the player he was for us then he is for United.
