Joel Robles

Howard in 23 games --- 6 wins, 6 losses, 11 draws. We got points in 73% of the games and won 26% of them.
Robles in 11 games --- 3 wins, 5 losses, 3 draws. We got points in 54% of the games and won 27% of them.

I understand the sampling size is different, but there's nothing impressive in either. Neither goalkeeper is good enough for Everton, in my opinion. Defense has been horrendous for two seasons now, it's not like they just started being crap when Robles got in goal. I just think blaming Howard for the first 23 games is a bit harsh. I also think if we had left Howard in net, our results would have been nearly identical to what they are (though the fume would have reached unprecedented levels).
You've got to be on the wind up. There is no way a rational person could think that Robles isn't an improvement on Howard. Howard was our worst player when he was in the team. Robles has probably been our best player since he's been in the team.

As I said comparing apples with pears or a clown called Timmy Howard!

True this, but when Howard was playing the team in front of him half the time was rubbish, now that Joel is playing the rest are still awful but we have a better keeper.

I think Robles has come in when the damage has been done,to his credit whilst others around hims standards have slipped beyond recognition,he has actually visibly improved,I can only think of a couple of goals and they would be questionable to me that you may be able to attach blame to him,If he had started the season god knows,we may have been looking at a half decent league position.

Very true we could have been in the to four before Xmas but not holding on to 2-0 wins and a keeper who dived on his bum, and stayed stuck on his line was chosen week in week out!

Spot on!

comparing apples with pears there, early season how many games where we 2-0 up? We were playing great!
Robles comes in the team were and are still playing crud!
That seems like a pretty strong indication that who our goalkeeper is has very little to do with how we play and what kind of results we get, doesn't it? That's the only point I've been trying to make. All season people have been talking about how important goalkeepers are and how big a difference in results they make. It's just not true. Apart from the truly great keepers like De Gea and the ones who genuinely are out of their depth like Haugaard at Stoke, the goalkeeper doesn't actually make a big difference. They seem like they do, because when they make a spectacular save or fail to stop an easy looking shot it's easy to just give them all the credit or the blame for that play, but there really isn't much of a difference in results.

On your logic tell RM to play 11 outfield players then - the needle on your record is stuck by the way!

Robles: Played 22, Conceded 25 = 1.14 goals conceded per game (All Competitions)
Played 11, Conceded 14 = 1.27 goals conceded per game (PL)

Howard: Played 23, Conceded 34 = 1.48 goals conceded per game (PL)

Robles > Howard

Q.E.D.

Honestly, as much as I like the guy I just think he's an alright keeper, nothing special.

Howard has just been so poor for the last 2 years that it's made Joel look great by comparison, but really he's just a fairly reliable keeper who, to his credit, has been one of our better players over the last 2 months.

While time is certainly on his side, I do feel he is not our #1 going forward. Please prove me wrong Joel you giant latino hunk.

I think he is an ok keeper with a lot to learn , and could end up being a really great keeper unlike Timmy who was over the hill crass and RM kept selecting him over an 18 month period - the RM question of management in my eyes started then!

Really? That's what you think I'm saying? Could you do me a favor and not respond to my posts without reading them any more?

Your reply is very long LOL

I thought Robles is good in some areas Howard is not, but the goals we concede recently, I felt that Howard, as bad as he is this season, he would have saved it. To be fair, Howard will concede the goals in some other silly fashion. I blame Martinez.
