Joel Robles

His positional sense is suspect. He's an ok keeper but I would still have new goalie at the top of my summer shopping list.

One save - came for crosses and puched well our defender pass back to him more as he makes himself available - one scary moment when he came out to close costa down realising if he touched his boot laces he would have dived into the upper park end stand so pulled away - kept a clean sheet thats what matters not one goal conceded in the FAS cup so far like 1966!

Thought one in first half were he pulled out, think it was on Pedro.. Was good too.

Still don't think he's our long term solution but he's performing better than Howard.

Played very safe last night which was good to say, dealt with everything required and I enjoyed seeing him punch the ball far away from the danger zone. Can't ask for much more than a clean sheet.

What more can Joel do?

He has shown loyalty to the team, kept his gob shut even when he was not getting a fair shake, almost
always plays well and his penalty save kept us in the Cup. And he's getting better.

Promoting from inside is usually good for any organization and Joel deserves a chance. Save the money for Yarmolenko, Mr. M.

Looking like a long term solution to me. Sometimes doesn't take much to turn games around but when we had just gone one up there was a great ball into the box, he was not only already off his line anticipating but when the ball swung away from him towards a Chelsea head he still got a really strong hand to it to send it outside the box not back towards danger.
Obviously it's time to stop making comparisons with Howard but even against the top premier keepers he's looking favourable at the moment.

The main thing is that our keeper isn't a weakness anymore. I can't see the opposition pinpointing Robles as something to exploit.

How much of a strength he is, time will tell, but I'm backing Joel. His big improvements in a short space of (match) time suggest there's more to come.

I agree with you point there mate.

He has improved out of sight since he came in for Howard, I have the utmost confidence in him and convinced he will only get better.

Saying that we still need competition for him as Howard might well go now before his contract is up, I don't think he will want to hang about playing second fiddle.
