All you melts mentioning Butland for £600 billion dollors and in exchange for Barkley & Lukaku really need to stop it!

The boat has sailed so get over it!

In my opinion give Joel that no.1 jersey as i think he is good enough for it! He will make mistakes but at 25 for a goalkeeper is still very young. Tall, commanding, good spring, probably one thing he needs to work on is shots low down to him as he gets down a little slow due to his height, but thats something to work on.

Joel no.1 next season and go get 2 goalkeepers (1. the next "Butland" e.g that Bentley from Southend and loan him straight out to a championship side so he isnt stagnating on the bench, 2. An old goalkeeper of the Schwarzer, Given variety to sit on the bench while our young keeper is out on loan)

yes.

Phil Jagielka, Martinez’s captain, called it a ‘changing of the guard’ and a reward for a 25-year-old who spent two and a half seasons on the bench.

He said: ‘It has been difficult for Joel. He has come in and had to play understudy. It is hard enough coming in as an outfield player when you haven’t played for months having to come in for one or two games but as a goalkeeper it is tremendously difficult. He has bided his time and has supported Tim. It’s up to Tim now to support Joel.’

Still in shock here.

I'm finding it hard to applaud Martinez has he's waited a year too long and it has hurt us, but hey, at least it's happened. VIVA JOEL.

I know it sounds strange but shot stopping is a little overrated in a keeper. Even Southall at his peak only made a handful of top saves in a season and don't remember anything too spectacular from Martyn.
The qualities you mentioned commanding and good spring tend to mean you discourage shots and are cutting out opportunities at root. Not seen too much to worry about with this guy at moment and as the defence seem to enjoy playing in front of him why risk changing it.

I get the feeling that it's something a lot of the squad wanted to happen for a long time as well.

It looks like that Swansea game was indeed Howard's Neville v Wigan moment. Even though that should have been the Leicester game last season

For me his performance away in the cup last season against West Ham was the turning point. That was a very good performance, the best I've seen for years. That was the one that convinced me he should be the No 1 keeper, I've honestly no idea why Martinez thought otherwise but his decision to keep Howard in has been a disaster for our league campaign.

Did OK with the penalty struck low and the cross he saved. If he becomes more commanding with crosses while under pressure I'll be happy with that.

I know mate, just goals last season against Krasnodor & West Ham stick in my head were they have been slotted in low. Im not critisisng him that much as i think he is good enough to be no.1 in my opinion

I remember Neville saying on football focus that he went off at half time and then said to Moyes after the game, "he cant play again, he's done"
Nice of him to wait until the end of the season to confirm his retirement, atleast another 3 months of wages for Pip

If anything that performance got a lot of fans onside and think with that support he's been able to feel more comfortable and feels confident. Ever since that game (apart from Barnsley this season) the lads been faultless.

I have seen southall pull out saves that truely left me amazed. His shot stopping even in his later years was amazing , and he even ruined that Geordie weirdo from big brother's dream, of scoring at at james park in the legends match on sky. That was an outstanding save and he had been retired about 10 years and was 10 stone heavier
