A lad on TEF was saying Royle was very much Bills man & was very very heavily involved in picking the team with Unsworth so he may feel he had lost authority when Unsworth wasn't appointed.

He got involved when we didn’t have a management team... now we’ve got a management team... he’s also retirement age and is probably due a cracking rest with some good money in the bag and his legendary status well and truly banked forever at Goodison.
His management is responsible for my first happy Everton memories too!

Cheers for everything Joe!

He’s 68. Maybe he just thought it was the right time to retire? It doesn’t mean there is any trouble behind the scenes at all.

I find this very distasteful if Joe Royle has felt the need to resign due this new management team being put in place.
Cant see what is amicable in all this either.
Big Joe is worth 10 of each of these new regime.
Really sad its come to this...nice one Everton.
How do you work out he's worth 10 of the new regime ???? Other than being one of the best number 9's to have played for us, what has he achieved ?????
If he doesn't feel comfortable with those around him now then perhaps he needed to resign.....Typical blue tinted glasses reaction.
Time to move on....and stop living on past glories !!!!
