Think Hart's kicking weakness is similar to Howard's. It's not that he can't pass it short but if your doing it from every kick, with centre back splitting to wide areas, very soon teams cotton on. The defender gets pressed and plays it back to Hart who is also pressed so he needs to have the bottle to control and play it quickly to the other CH before he too gets pressed. And that's where hart falls down - he bottles it and goes long. Howard was the same. When Martinez first came Howard tried harder to play but he moved the ball too slow which caused the many Distin heart attack moments!

Edit: but as others have said, RM has gone and we're not playing that way now. So he might be decent.

Ermmm... thought money wasn't an object any more...

Everton's interest in Manchester City keeper Joe Hart cools as £7m single-season cost proves too steep

Joe Hart's future has been left in limbo after Everton withdrew their interest in the out-of-favour Manchester City keeper.

With Pep Guardiola having told Hart he is free to find a new club, Everton had emerged as the most likely destination for him to stay in the Premier League as Ronald Koeman's ambition before the transfer window closed was to sign another goalkeeper.

Everton had held preliminary talks with City about Hart's situation but further discussions on Monday ended with the Goodison Park club taking the decision to put a line through any idea of pursuing a deal before the window.

It would have cost Everton in the region of £7million to take Hart for a season on loan, when his £135,000 per week wages were taken into account, and that kind of expenditure was not something to which they were prepared to commit.

The other factor that shaped the decision was Maarten Stekelenburg's impressive start to life at Everton and that has left the club believing the Holland international can fulfil the role of No 1 for this campaign, with Joel Robles to be his deputy.

It may just be a negotiating tactic - there is plenty of time left to bargain the price down. That does appear a huge amount for one year only. Time will tell if it is a bluff or the true position.

At 29, he probably has 7 or 8 years left in him. If £7 million per season is his value, that works out at a transfer fee of £50 million +.

If that's true, we're right to drop our interest.

aye it would be even more mate as that's without paying a transfer fee and just wages.

Shame as i think he would be a top signing but 7m is a few bob though I'm sure they would have known how much his wages were before even entering negotiations so must have had an idea that it would cost a fair bit just for the season.
