Leicester aside, the league title has been dominated by Man City, Man Utd and Chelsea (the biggest spenders) for years. I don't think Moshiri can/wants to spend on that kind of level, hence the appointment of Walsh to source reasonably priced talent.

However, if we do start splashing some cash (and the signs are that Moshiri is willing to invest quite heavily in the squad) on some quality, established players of the ilk of Joe Hart, I don't understand how that would reflect badly on Moshiri's business model for the progression of the club.

I see your point and definitely agree that Moshiri will be looking to invest heavily in quality.

However I don't agree that is a good idea to spend way over what a player is worth unless you have the revenue that United generate or the almost unlimited backing that City have. You bring up Chelsea which is a good example because in general they spend quite heavily too however they tend to get far more value out of what they spend. I really don't have any stats to support this but feel they often get far better resale values for players than City and United and this is partly due to the players wages comparative to their abilities.

You can also look at what they did this summer in centre midfield as to finding value, Kante for 30m on 100k a week vs Pogba for 90m on 400k a week. United and City really don't care what anything costs where Chelsea will spend big but make sure they are getting value when they spend. It's never always going to work but I think for Everton, the Chelsea approach will work far better than a United or City approach.

Anyway, back to Joe Hart. No problem with getting him, I just think given the burden of his wages, that he has been shopped around all summer and nobody seems to be that interested and the fact that City have quite clearly shown they don't intend to use him much means that we really shouldn't need to pay a lot for him. Pretty sure Walsh, Moshiri etc will realise this and will drive a hard bargain but I guess we will see.
 
Hart on loan with an option to buy is a perfect scenario. 12 months ago we could only dream about having the likes of joe hart in our goal as Tim Howard was our undisputed no.1. Some people are never happy.
 
If we need a Hart, but don't have one, it's gonna be bad news.
If we have a Hart, but don't need one, then its good backup/rotation.

If he agrees to less wages, why not.
 

He's 29 and could keep playing well past 35 (as some GKs tend to do).

He's a good keeper. Had a poor Euros but then again so did the rest of his team.

We could do a lot worse than Joe Hart.
 
Lads, we've just seen our 'very special guests behind closed doors event' turn out to be two of our most recent signings wearing a yellow kit and playing a pub quiz. We're not signing Joe Hart, Juan Mata or Jamezzz Rodriguez, we're not there yet.
