For me, we must not pick players on reputation alone. It has to be about whether they're good for the team as opposed to 'are they a big enough name'.

Is Stekelenburg good for the side currently? I'd say yes. As you say, if we assume Robles isn't good enough and we sign Hart too, where would that leave both Hart and Stekelenberg? Oh the dilemma of goalies.....

Hart wouldnt sign youd figure without guarantees he would be number 1 mate

just think right now anyway we have more pressing needs in the team - especially if we are gonna spend decent money and BIG wages on a player than a goalkeeper, could come back to bite us on the bum like but only time will show that, Must say i trust Koeman to choose the right thing anyways as so far he's getting pretty much most things spot on

Being honest, i'd take Morph over Robles.
Morph Goodison.webp

The lad we had in goal today is a steady keeper and should be given a chance, we should sign a young keeper, one for the future, Hart is not that keeper mate.

Let's not be too hasty to assume Stek is our Number 1 after just a few games.

Also, let's not be too quick to assume Joe Hart is no longer a class act just because he doesn't fit into the PG mould of sweeper keeper.

Our days of making do with one goalkeeper who we've bagged on a free transfer are over, we can now have quality on the pitch and the bench - embrace it.

PG doesn't want him not because he's not a sweeper keeper, any keeper can do that job, its an excuse to sell him, the decision to sell has been made not just on his match cock ups but what PG has seen in training. Hart is a spent force. Its stupidity itself to spend money when you don't have to especially when we are talking millions, look at Niasse I would not have had him even on a free but we sent £13.5 mil down the river. When embracing anything you keep your eyes open, rather than buy a name I'd rather buy a competent player for a position we need, at present we don't need a keeper

Hart is a spent force.

He is 29 years old, he's barely reached his prime. He's played consistency under several different managers for many seasons for City at the highest level & against world class opposition. Suddenly, because PG doesn't think he fits in with his own vision, and a few shaky games in the Euros, he's a spent force?

How is Niasse even comparable? A total unknown quantity from the Russian league who we blew £13.5m on, compared with a keeper whose average season consists of challenging for the premier league title and playing in the champions league.

Koeman knows we need players in multiple areas, if we're spending £15-20m on Hart as well as £100k a week wages, we've clearly got plenty of money to spend to not worry about falling short in other areas.

He was constantly criticised by supporters last term and got dropped, bit like the shots he spills. I think PG has much better insight into Hart abilities than either you or me and he wants him out, That decision, as I said earlier, is based not just on the howlers Hart has managed in matches but also what he does in training, PG will have also assessed his attitude which can't be good. What highest levels did city reach last term, they were that poor it cost Pellegrini his job, part of that was down to a crap defence of which Hart was responsible. He had a few 'shaky' games in Europe, shaky? try earth shatteringly bad, it would be a fairer description, yes he is undoubtedly a spent force measured on what he has achieved over the last 12 months and that achievement was sweet FA. Incidentally his age is immaterial, keepers drop balls at every age, even 29.

The Niasse comment is based on your claim that we've got the money lets spend it, that players purchase was a complete and utter disaster and he was Russian player of the year. You want to spend up to £30 mil on what is the most calamitous keeper presently in the league, Joel included, You can certainly tell its not your money. I hope Finn forecast comes true...............and Liverpool sign him as he is worse than Mignolet, you could say he is head and shoulders below the rest.

What a load of nonsense lol
Which supporters was he constantly criticised by? Because I think you'll find the majority of City fans were and still are behind him.
As has been in noted in all the papers, Pep had made a decision on Hart way before he had even returned to training, he simply needs a keeper who can play the way he wants right now (Bravo).
Hart is a massive upgrade on our two keepers, Joel does not inspire confidence & our current no 1 is notorious for his inconsistency. Or have you decided he is good enough on the back of 2 competitive games?

Is Begovic a viable alternative to Hart?

He'd probably be a little more affordable in terms of price tag and wages.

But is he as good a keeper?

Only the best are good enough and we need to keep that mentality.

For me Begovic is far better than Hart. Would be well happy if we got him . I don't see Hart as any improvement over Stekelenburg who for all his perceived faults ,has 50 odd caps for the Netherlands and kept goal in a World Cup final.

Hart's ability, or perceived lack of, as 'a ball playing keeper' :):)has absolutely nothing at all to do with PG wanting him gone. More to do with Hart's presence within the dressing room, and his refusal to be a yes man.
