Because they want to win at all costs. They've seen the havoc Trump unleashed and they never, ever want to experience anything like that ever again.

The Supreme Court is way too important to risk it chasing policy ideals, and Biden has moved hard left as the coronavirus has shifted the median voter left in any event.

Biden is old and old-style and if your first priority is the final destruction of capitalism he's presumably not for you, but he's not actually in steep cognitive decline and he doesn't lack what they used to call basic human decency. And as mentioned above, the times are nudging him left.

We're often a stupid, lazy, self-indulgent people. He's not the other-than-Trump we want but he may well be the other-than-Trump we deserve.
