The left in the Democratic Party have to dig in now and keep Biden honest.

Which, in addition to GOP congressional obstructionism, should do much to ensure the Biden administration's inability to get anything significant done.

Why settle for half a loaf when you can get no loaf at all?

But never mind that for the moment, I'm going to focus on the election result itself for now and try to stop hyperventilating.

I watched Ocasio-Cortez interviewed on CNN earlier, who was responding to Dem. Virginia Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger who had stated the word 'socialism' needed to be avoided at all costs. Ocasio-Cortes sounded almost apologetic in defending the left in response. She and others need to remind the "moderates" that there'd be no Biden presidency without the energy that the progressive left brought to the Democratic cause.

I am beginning to like AOC a lot. She smells a rat here, or at least the mucky whiff of a trojan horse.

I'm far closer to AOC's view of politics than the centre, but it's not quite so simple - there'd also be no Biden presidency if not for moderate Democrats (and tbf some moderate Republicans and a lot of Independents) voting for him in various parts of the country.

Trump increased his share of the vote among Republicans from 90% to 93%.

The Democrats won Georgia, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin and even Minnesota almost entirely because progressive grassroots activists largely ignored the official Biden campaign and organised of their own accord to get out the vote, while the Biden campaign refused to do any door-to-door campaigning.

This also certainly cost them heavily in South Florida, where I suspect it will emerge that Trump's share of the vote remained mostly constant, and that rank and file Democrat voters didn't turn up.
