You assume the price negotiated > value of wage difference you give to the player… I don’t. My assumption was baked into my comment.
Lille would have paid for Gomes if they could of afforded his wages.
He only has a year's 'Everton' wages left.
Say lille offer 6mil for Gomes they will have a wage budget set for the player, so we knock off a year's difference on there's and our's wages, which goes to Gomes.
Lille haven't lost out on wages cost.
Gomes hasn't lost out and now has a new contract at a club.
(Instead of being an ignored freebie nxt year)
We actually receive some money towards a player leaving for nothing nxt year.
Everyone wins..
