That's fine. We never really planned to have him for this season so let him come back start of pre-season when he'll be ready.

It's fine in the sense that it takes as long as it takes for him to get fit yeah, but to have a £25m player unable to contribute for 2 whole seasons is grim. There was talk that he'd be back for half of this season, missing the entire thing would be a pretty big deal.

Yeah, I'm not sure where you are getting the "he wasn't supposed to be back at all this year" from. His Achilles injury would have/should have kept him out until December or so. He absolutely SHOULD be playing a part in this year unless he has yet another setback.

It's a shame but I think you'd have to be an extremely positive person to have thought in the Summer "we're okay for numbers in midfield we've got JPG back at Christmas".

That's not what I'm implying. We were always told it would be around New Year he might be back but he's also been out for over a year and no one knows if he'll come back any good so the manager and club will have, I hope, not shaped the squad under the assumption he'd be back to contribute this season.
