Yes but good scouting gets you the player before he costs that much.

We need to be getting players in cheap and making them 60-70 mil players, like Ndiaye/Branthwaite

Whilst I’m all for buying potential it would be great to not have two strikers that are just potential. Someone who’s already half decent gets us Conference League next season.

I think someone made the point that Mateta was as pants as Barry when he first arrived at Palace and that's true. He was awful.

He is now a very effective, confident striker but at his age and for £40 mill , no I'd look elsewhere . We could always pick up another Dibling for that money.

He’s a good goal scorer now and a real handful for defenses, he’s 28 and can still be playing for another 4 years in the premier league. If we got four good years from him and he helps us get into Europe then he’d be worth it.

Another Dibling that will sit on the bench doesn’t help us

Worth noting that Mateta has suffered a significant knee injury in his career and has been playing with it strapped up for parts of this season. Swerve.
