Allardyce on his hunt for a left-back
Everton manager Sam Allardyce has revealed that he’d be happy to continue with Cuco Martina at left-back for the remainder of the season rather than take “a gamble” on an unknown quantity.

The Blues boss said:

“We have looked at many left-backs and obviously we can’t find the right left-back that we’re looking for.

Sorry for just rudely jumping in here rather than introduce myself as a newbie first, but I really needed to get something straight re what Sammy said.

He says we're looking for the right left back, right? If we don't get the right left back, we'll be left with no left back and a right back playing left back rather than get the wrong left back. Surely that can't be right (or is it left)?

Confused.

from mcnulty, off if we've rejected loan bids for klaassen and sandro, why would we do that? neither are getting in the squad. would be typical moyes to try and loan schneiderlin ha he's got to at least spend 1p on somebody, surely?
The window is beginning to close and clubs are getting desperate. This is our best chance of getting rid. We don't want them coming back in the summer when they don't want to be here costing a fortune each week and their reputation even lower than it is now. At least at the moment there is a chance they could be a good signing for a different club.
In addition a sale tidies a bloated squad and may generate funds if there is a genuine target.

No point in having a genuine target if he’s not a LB

Every one of them able to come in and play premiership football?

The test is if the signing is capable of playing left back in a winning Everton team...if not, them no thanks.
Exactly.
For context, City spent £100m on one RB and one LB.
Now of course, we wouldn't be attracting those two, but the level down from them would be still be £25-£30m+. And then really we are looking at Bertrand etc. Throw on the 'It's January Premium' and you've got a deal that makes no financial sense.
