I've loved him but he's been consistently a liability this season, with few signs of improvement. Yet another player that needs replacing
He was as good a free transfer as a club like Everton is likely to make, but his decline this season has been stark and quite eye-opening. He's also getting worse. The assist for Brentford's goal, the attempted assist last night in the first half, these are just basic, basic decisions that no half-decent footballer should be making.
I fear a bit for us because for him to be dropped means handing the captaincy to somebody else, which to me at least makes it more unlikely that he would lose his position - even though he fully deserves to. If he's starting for us next season we're in trouble, put it that way.
