2024/25 James Tarkowski

The penalty was not necessary, he could have run the player to the goal line.
That’s the point I was making at the game. Regardless of the shouts for offside at the time, there was no need to lunge in on the player. He had gone very wide and the angle was tight. Just look to block the shot rather than go in on the man.

Was poor decision in the moment but he will put in a captains performance mid week.

Tarks is a warrior and is usually a consistent player so that makes the penalty tackle so strange. Completely unnecessary.
And then that terrible pass.

It all adds up to a storming performance against LFC. Or on the contrary, Jake takes his spot.

People fuming with Tarks for having ONE bad game should give their head a shake tbh. Hes been one of our most consistent and hard working players over several seasons. No doubt O’Brien or A.N.Other will be replacing him soon, but come on lids. :)
I agree that he generally is a consistent performer. Before this season though!!
I been frustrated with him this year. His performances have been poor at times.
He does give the ball away fairly often as well. He started this season off poorly but so did others.
He’s also got away with a one or two penalty and sending off decisions as at times as he sometimes gives it the hard man image which is taking chances.
He’s meant to be the captain and needs to be a steady influence.
Flying into tackles is giving the refs a decision to make is not a good way to go. He’s been fortunate at times.
I do like him as a defender but this season hasn’t been his best.

Yobo was better overall. Had one clanger every game, which could vary from ‘no harm done’ to throwing away the game, so you just hoped he got it out of the way early doors, but he was solid otherwise.

I like the lad too but once we get a RB in, he should be cover for Branthwaite and O’Brien.

Remember when his clanger was not tying his laces properly? 🤣

We need to drop a midfielder in deep for him to play an easy ball to. Gana, Garner or Tim, whoever is in the holding two. At the moment they are not showing for him when he picks it up from Pickford. Either that or back to hoofball.

Not just one bad game though this season is it?

He was crap first few months of the season as well.

Looks a player on the slide, slide isn't terminal yet but the signs are definitely there

Personally think he's a crap captain. Way too many reckless decisions and been present in way too many collapses to be considered anything but.

With his wages and likely someone being willing to pay for him I'd offload during the summer if we're able to keep hold of Branthwaite.

I agree. Haven't seen the hightlights yet as I've been away all weekend, but this isn't the first time he's made bad mistakes costing us goals and results this year. Up til this season has been really good for us, but has struggled badly at times recently imo. Needs to get back to previous levels or we need to think our replacing him in the starting 11.

Started the season carrying an injury and playing alongside Keane. Appeared to struggle.

Eventually recovered from injury and Branthwaite came back in. Improved.

Ever present in 4th best defence in the league.

Statistically has the 2nd highest average match rating of CBs in the league of 7.07 with Van Dijk first with 7.08. (According to WhoScored).

Sat was poor but it’s an outlier.
