I think the club/manager needs to announce the situation with him. If he's fit and doesnt make that squad tonight due to manager opinion then massive questions need asked of Benitez personal issues over the club as a whole.
If James doesnt want involved it should be made public and a scapegoat made of him.

That's totally fair. You have a player saying publicly he is fit and wants to play. The manager saying he is training normally...

That's why i dont think he'd have made much difference today. Could have perhaps made some openings for Gray like. Bit daft not to have him on the bench, seems like a personal vendetta from Benitez. I dont get who loses out other than the team by not including him at all? HE was never going to bring Simms on as well.

Agree, if James doesn't want to play for us, it should be made public, would probably help Rafael in terms of his support.too
