Started following Allan tonight and liked his most recent post saying goodbye to Napoli.

This one is surely done lads.

Would have been a bit of a waste announcing all 3 at the same time tbh so give Allan his own lime light today, then another tomorrow and another Monday whichever order they decide to do it in. Might save James till last with him being the highest profile.

Ok back to tracking planes and taxis then.
This is total common sense. Everton don’t sell widgets or tins of beans. They sell entertainment (or should do!). They are part of show business; like it or not. You don’t unveil three huge signings at once. Even Strictly drip feeds new contestants.

Well that's how you've taken it.

I thought the point in general was the model Everton seemed to be following - or perhaps the best model for Everton to follow to have long-term success - would be the model followed by most 'mid-size' clubs across Europe. i.e. pick out gems from teams across the continent. Those players you name aren't really in that mould either as they were youth signings or, in Vlasic's case, a one-off signing because Koeman was impressed when we played Split.

I just wouldn't take offence to it or be bothered really.

James is, really, exactly the type of signing - on paper - we *shouldn't* make.

He does have an iffy injury record, not helped by the fact he has been in-and-out for the past two seasons (not through any fault of his own last year really, ZZ just couldn't fit him in).

He is 29. He will be on big wages. He has failed to live up to his early potential.

On paper, it's exactly what we shouldn't do.

But footy isn't played on paper, as the saying goes, and he is miles better than what we have even with all of the above taken into an account. It's an exciting signing, should it go ahead, which I think we can all be confident it will :)
Stopped reading at James is the signing we shouldnt make.
When ever else do we have a manager like Carlo that wants a player and we are in a position to get him ?
Dont understand your reasoning at all.

Look, when the rumour first came about a few weeks ago (in the Telegraph) that a deal was close, I said the same on here. He is exactly the type of player we really shouldn't go for, all things considered, if we stuck to this 'sustainable' model.

That doesn't mean I don't want him here or don't think he isn't going to be a good signing, mate.

In fact, I think I said something like 'he's the type of signing we really shouldn't make. So for that reason, he's exactly the signing we should make right now'.

I know it's twisted logic, but it's true.

Really, the type of player we should be trying to sign is a playmaker who is 24/25 and has bags of talent, or a player like Ziyech (a bit older albeit). But realistically, for where we are, it isn't gonna happen. So to be able to use Ancelotti as a cheat code for transfers - which is what he is - is absolutely brilliant.
