Confirmed Signing James Rodriguez

His big take was we should be targeting young players from the football back water leagues .
Dont you think we've tried that.
Vlasic , Tarashaj and the young Dutch lad Donk ? was it.
Everyone in football knows Carlo is here for "here & now" so he is way off there.

Brands is steadily doing what he does with the likes of Branthwaite & Nkounku which he somehow conveneintly overlooks this.

I can give or take journo's and their opinions , but that was just an attempt at putting the club down.
Very poor journalism .

Well that's how you've taken it.

I thought the point in general was the model Everton seemed to be following - or perhaps the best model for Everton to follow to have long-term success - would be the model followed by most 'mid-size' clubs across Europe. i.e. pick out gems from teams across the continent. Those players you name aren't really in that mould either as they were youth signings or, in Vlasic's case, a one-off signing because Koeman was impressed when we played Split.

I just wouldn't take offence to it or be bothered really.

James is, really, exactly the type of signing - on paper - we *shouldn't* make.

He does have an iffy injury record, not helped by the fact he has been in-and-out for the past two seasons (not through any fault of his own last year really, ZZ just couldn't fit him in).

He is 29. He will be on big wages. He has failed to live up to his early potential.

On paper, it's exactly what we shouldn't do.

But footy isn't played on paper, as the saying goes, and he is miles better than what we have even with all of the above taken into an account. It's an exciting signing, should it go ahead, which I think we can all be confident it will :)
