There's defo a good player in there, but he just looks so bereft of confidence and fitness I don't think he'll ever be useful unfortunately. It's sad because on his day he's absolutely unplayable and he'd be a great squad option to have in Europe next season.

I'd sell him to Toon.

McCarthy has been incredibly stupid about this.
Regardless of the reason for pulling out of the game tonight he has been struggling with a hamstring all season.
Swanning off to join the national squad was a stupid thing to do. He needs to get properly over his injury, then get fit and then play.
He has not been involved with the Everton team because of the same recurring injury and tonight has proven again that Everton were right, Ireland wrong and McCarthy was stupid.
Let' s see if he is available next week.

Considering the longevity of this hamstring problem now, I'm beginning to think MacCarthy may have already played his last game for us (and possibly anybody else.). He certainly won't be fit for next week surely ? Very sad to see a players career sputtering to an end ,as his appears to be.
