James McCarthy

He runs and runs but he's a limited footballer. At least with Gana he does have a bit of a pass in him, if not regularly. Can't have both Gana and McCarthy in the same team, too limited. Puts all the pressure on Barkley, and if Barkley had the game he usually has had this season then we'd struggle massively.

Wouldn't be bothered if he was sold, but would be happy for him to be a squad player, all he will ever be with his injury record.

Would be a good option for some matches. We will do well to hang onto him now. Limited as a footballer and passer but i think he can still do a great job as a defendive midfielder and is one of the best in the business when fit at breaking up play. Fitness is a hugh issue . Gana and himself might not work against the better teams as some have said before. Not much would get past them tho.

A leopard never changes its spots and a crab will never learn to walk forwards. As good as he was in the first season and him showing up against Arsenal and Liverpool this year, Everton are moving on. Will look a good player for West Brom, Newcastle or Villa, which are the clubs who have reportedly shown an interest in him. Wouldnt have been one of the first to get rid of but will be on decent wages which can be reinvested.

Is Mccarthy fit for city game. Because if so then surely him and Morgan starting together is the best option. As much as I like barry and he's been good for us I just don't think he has the legs for a game like Sunday and if he plays it will likely cost us the result.

If we get a first 18 months from Schneiderlin as good as McCarthy's first 18 months he'll go about one third toward justifying the fee he was bought for.

Why not use the James McCarthy thread to discuss the merits of James McCarthy, rather than desperately trying to find new ways to get digs in at Koeman and praise in for Martinez? This is getting tedious to the extreme.

Anyway, I wouldn't sell McCarthy. The Arsenal game, and first 45 of the derby, proved there is still a top player in there if we can get him fit and focused.

All of our best wins over last few years (Chelsea QF, Wolfsburg 4-1, Arsenal 2-1, Arsenal 3-0, Man United 3-0 etc.) have involved Macca running round like an absolute maniac.

Keep him till the summer, big half a season coming up for him. Does well he can still have a part to play here, does nothing and he will be gone in the summer.

We shouldn't be allowing him to leave in January no way.

Our 3 options in CM need to be him, Schneiderlin and Gueye. Barry needs to be put out to pasture.

We need energy and legs, it is absolutely no coincidence that we win more games without Barry in the side.
