James McCarthy

If that's true it's the worst possible timing for him. Was looking like he was going to command a regular place but could even fall behind Besic now

Aye not the best timing for him. Selfishly though its not the worst time for us as a club as we have loads of options now.

If its true like...

Nah mate schneiderlin will become that player that everything starts with a bit like Carrick was/is for United or Barry was first season he was with us, only with better mobility and more physical presence.
I dont see it. I dont see the blend with Gueye. That partnership has us too deep in our own half. It's a bit like Barry/McCarthy was...a belt and braces approach which is way too conservative against most opposition. The McCarthy role worked on Saturday because he played in a slightly more advanced position.

Gutted for the lad, but thankfully we have plenty of cover in that area.

My Bosnian prince is probably 2 weeks away from being in contention for a run out.
Besic is a while off. He is 2 weeks off returning to SOME parts of full training. I'd say he's 2 months off competitive matches.

NO!!!!!

Ronny said last week he was 2 weeks away, this will be his last week, next week he will train with the team, then probably play an U23 the week after, 2 weeks I reckon, maybe 3. Hes in the final stages, I know theres a desire not to rush things, but hes fairly advanced IMO.

So McCarthy has done his hamstring in...and not an Irish game in sight. I wonder how Ronald will account for that? :coffee:

Blaming McCarthys hamstring problems on Koeman now?

Maybe McCarthy is just an injury prone water carrier who we should have sold when we had the chance

MS is the first CM name on the sheet for me. Liked him a lot at Southampton, and in his 2 starts for us, have seen that he appears to have a touch of class on the ball that we've been missing. Clever passes splitting players. Seems to have the intelligence of Barry, but younger and still got his legs.

Think MS and Barry are similar - read the play well, good passing range. For me I'd play one or the other, not both together as on Saturday.

Gana, McCarthy and besic (when fit) are similar - tons of energy and pressing/tacking.

Davies seems to have a bit of all of the above, but may be rotated this year due to age.

As I said somewhere else, I'm genuinely not sure of our best 11, but having good players fighting for a place, and options from the bench is a must if we aim to break the top 4.
All that may be mate. It's my opinion though that Gueye plus Schneiderlin is too conservative. To me that's not a great blend. Who did he have with Schneiderlin at S'ton? Wanyama? He got forward a little bit more IIRC. A good blend.

No mate. I'm blaming no one other than the players own natural tendency to pick up repetitive stress injuries. Just as it was no Irish game that was purely responsible, so too it isn't any Everton game.

That's what we call looking beyond black and white conclusions...for future reference.

Sorry you're trying to say Wanyama gets forward better than Gueye?

Edit: I don't mean that to sound like Gueye is clearly better at attacking play than Gueye, just that they're pretty much exactly the same in that respect, while Gueye is better at defending on top of that.

Awful news. Exactly at the moment when he's starting to play to the levels he should be doing. The future looks grim for him at this rate.
