I really don't think Davies is anywhere near the level of Gueye therefore without the League Cup against "weaker" teams, I can't see any games where you'd be happy leaving him on the bench and playing our floppy-haired, sockless starlet.

I agree that we need to supplement Gueye though, absolutely.

Yes, i wouldnt replace Gueye with him yet at all but perhaps start to bring him on for barry with 20 mins ish left to get minutes with a view to doing the same if and when we revert to one DM...that being gueye.

More important than some superstar etc signing is just finding a very good player whose game compliments gueye and vice versa, and hopefully get the centre mid purring and the entire team will up a level.

Kind of agree, yet we need an absolute class player next to him to be the fulcrum.

It's all opinions mate. And in my opinion Coleman is a limited footballer and average defender.

And baines is/was a class above him
Let's not forget about 5 yrs ago, I think it may have been arteta's last season. Baines was in the top 5 assists in the prem. This is outrageous for a full back especially one that wasn't taking corners or free kicks. As arteta was taking 90% of them. And baines was 2nd in the whole of Europe for 2 seasons when it came to assists only behind Dani Alves.

Baines maybe be having a few injuries lately, and on the way down. But Coleman can't lace his boots.

Would be interesting to know how many assists Coleman has

Five years ago is the problem. As long as we live on sentiment we'll never turn into winners. Baines was a fantastic player, however these days he is decidedly average unfortunately. Seamus on the other hand is captain of his country and relishing the challenge.

I can tell you 100% I don't do sentiment mate, and it looks like injuries may have caught up with Baines.

My point was that Coleman's final ball is poor more often than not. And he never will be anywhere near Baines's level

As you say, it's about opinions. In my opinion, Seamus is a better all round player, is more consistent and certainly has more bottle than Baines. He was like a church mouse during and after the World Cup despite apparently being good enough for Bayern.
It's a shame as Baines was fantastic. Was being the operative word.

Why was McCarthy not even in the squad on Sunday?

If he was dropped and we had Craberley selected ahead of him, he is surely off in Jan? £15m we should get surely for him. I would have thought he would have been a Koeman-type player

Injured apparently

And I imagine he has all the tools to be a Koeman-type player (whatever that is), but he's unwilling to digress from his crab/safe style of play that has come from years of Martinezisation.
