That was definitely how I read it. Confused by the comments here. I thought he had really decent game and did a lot of the stuff people have been saying he can't do. If there was anyone not totally on their game today it was Ross.
Mc Carthy's looked bit tired since early last season to be honest but still a player that's not appreciated till he's not there

Played some good forward passes and got ahead of the ball a few times which I like to see. We will be ok with him getting forward - as long as we have a solid defensive unit. Unfortunately we look a long way off that.
 

He wasn't tasked with protecting the back line today. We played a 4-3-3 with Barry as the lone holding midfielder. I thought he did really well playing more box-to-box than usual.

He gave the ball away numerous times in those 50 mins and did nothing aside from laying the ball off 5 yards.

Hopefully the result and his performance in the latter stages of the game will see his confidence rise, as he's been poor this season imo.

Don't get this. His movement off the ball today made space for del boy kone rom . Ran his heart out. Gave the ball away couple times like every other everton players today. Some of ye just don't get his work rate and what he does for the team. U need players like him to be able to play del boy etc. I start him every day of the week.

So would I.

But some people seem to think he plays well every week which he doesn't. Like today.

He was gash in the first half, anyone who can't acknowledge that simple fact is deluded imho.
 
That first half performance was befitting of a person who has been under performing for far too long. In the second half he turned it round, hopefully most of his past games will be forgotten and he can kick on.
 
I thought he was well off the boil in the first half....being easily bypassed and doing no more than short sideways passes and at times at no more than walking pace. He stepped it up more in the second half though and had more of an influence with better and more forward passing. Hope he keeps it up...he'll need to have his head screwed on and be up for it at W Ham.
