Players like Savage, Lennon, Carsley and those types could get loads of tackles in and cover a fair bit of ground. What distinguishes better players from those types is what else they can do. I'm looking for more from him as his time at us goes forward, thats all. He already used the ball better than those BTW.

Tbf mate, plenty of CL teams i can think of have players who speed the play up and dont contribute all that much going forward.

How many?

By virtue of our league we're already as good as half those sides mate. I don't hate him or anything BTW I know he's a decent player. The water carrier seemed to be de jour when Makelele was at Madrid and then went to Chelsea. Since then everyone was at it.

The best sides have champagne carriers, that what I want him to develop into

Dortmund have Bender, United Carrick, City have Ferdiandinhola and it used to be Barry, Arsenal Flamini, Arteta, Wilshire, Barca have Busquets. I could go on. I think on reflection, a 22 year old, who could conceivably get better and does what he does pretty well even now seems like a very good bit of buisness for 13m.

Busquets, Carrick, Bender etc are all superb passers mate, as is Arteta, and Wilshire drives forward and beats people.

I'm not having a go at him for not having these things. I'm just saying 13m is a lot of money. Flamini went for free too BTW.

McCarthy is obviously not in that company. Not yet, but he is certainly capable of emulating some of them, id say Carrick most likely. But he is mobile, intelligent on the ball and a lot better in the tackle than i thought he would be. He's just a good CM and 13m is steep but I think will end up a good buy for us.

Carrick went for 18m a long time ago.

I feel your being a little harsh, your comparing him to some of the finest DMs in the World.

He wears the shirt with pride at the end of the day, and probably the beginning of it too if he's got no PJ's clean. Do that and they've got my respect.

I think he is a very well rounded player already, very mature player even now. Honestly think he is captain material in the making. He's a player I think we will really learn to love soon enough.
