James McCarthy

If he adds some attitude and arrogance to his game he will be a top player.

RM has been moulding him into his perfect midfielder for the past 3 years so theres no excuses.

And that's what it comes down to, for me. If you think Martinez is a good judge of football and footballers, and he'd better be, who better to judge McCarthy.

I must admit I didn't like the sound of McCarthy especially at 15m but since we signed him am quite excited to see what he brings to the team! Hopefully him and Barkley will make us forget we ever had Felliani!

Did you catch Elstone (someone at the "top of Everton") anyway calling the pundit at SSN to make it clear the McCarthy deal was in no way dependent on the sale of Fellaini? "Everton were always going to do business" was the catch phrase.

I´ll believe it when I see it.

You'll never see it. Nor will I.

Other clubs I reckon knew he was only going one place, that's why no competition for his signature came in for him; same as with Fellaini to United.

Kone could well get a boost out of someone from his old team he's on the same wavelength as. I wouldn't discount seeing a very different player with McCarthy playing in midfield behind him.

Good point.

My opinion is that we've overpaid by a few million in terms of raw ability, but his contribution to the team and the way he could complement our new style could easily prove him to be worth the fee and maybe more, although this isn't certain.

I love that he's just 22 and all of a sudden that's the average age of our centre midfield 3. He's an improvement on Osman which is a plus immediately. Our other business last night does mitigate the risk we've taken to an extent too. He'll have decent sell-on value as well.

I hope he lives up to billing, as if he does, we've got a player on our hands and the midfield could be sorted for many years to come. Welcome, Jimmy Mac.

Said it over and over this window that we shouldn't pay more than 8m for him but more I think about it I get excited . He's 22 knows the prem and signed on deadline day . We have got an extra 4 million from Fellaini so that covers the cost . He replaces Fellaini Barry replaces Osman so we know have an first team midfield of Mcarthy Barry and Barkley and options of Osman Gibson and heitinga. Sure we have lost abit of steel that Fellaini brings but Martinez has brought a player that suits his style which IMO is what is making us loose games because we have not got players to speed things up . All wee need is an experienced playmaker to interchange with Barkley and we will have a fine team

I just hope that with Martinez managing him for 4 years already he'll know what areas of his game he needs to improve upon. At Everton he'll have much better players around him too, really hope this works out.

Cheers mate much appreciated. What are your opinion on Kone? I´ve liked what I´ve seen so far but many Evertonians think he´s garbage.

His 1st touch is not the best but he's fast and can finish he played as a lone striker if bobby plays with 2 strikers you will see the best of kone

We've massively overpaid imo & based on what I've seen of the lad, I just don't see anything other than a tidy, bog standard CM player.

However, he's signed now, so I hope he makes me eat my words over the coming months / years.
