Should be made captain next season

Why? He's been poor this season. He hasn't shown any leadership qualities to arrest this alarming slump in form. I'd argue Jags stood up the most performance wise to try and help the team probably followed by Lukaku. Why is McCarthy a better candidate than these two?

Jags was great against italy. He is much better with a decent partner ( I.e. Not Alcaraz. )

We seriously underrated him at Wigan. Its all about partnerships and understanding, when he's playing along side somebody he trusts then he's a joy to watch.

We said it at the off yesterday.....a playing well advanced. We reckoned it was because Barkley naturally comes deep for the ball, and Barry just sits and breaks things up....Kone needed a runner and James was that man.

I'm not saying he's rubbish, just not quite as good as we thought. He's very hard working, decent pace, good tackler and decent passer but in the final 3rd he offers very little. Good DM but I don't think he'll ever be more than that.

Totally agree. No pleasing some people. Even when we win.

I just hoped that he would grow into a player that could give us a bit more going forward.

I get where you're coming from. I might not fully agree but I can see how people think that.

I do think he's not on form at the moment and still has some development to come as he's still young.

He is the type of player Evertonians will generally appreciate more than most due to his style and hard work, so he's lucky to be here as much as we are to have him.

I also think he needs the right person next to him. Barkley, Besic and if he stays long enough, Ledson, will be given those opportunities to build up an understanding with him.

Good thing is that he's not really impressed this year so it will pipe down the media and his agent's aspirations of a move to one of the top three in the country.

Big season next time out for McCarthy.
