I think Jagielka is a natural leader and a very good captain.I think he is a player that other players look up to.
James McCarthy may well be leadership material in time, but certainly not at the moment.

I thought he was excellent 2nd half. I thought he was starting to blow around the 80m mark but he found his second wind and kicked on. Also had a good effort blocked which is where I want him to kick on, further up the pitch. Was giving the ref an earful over the Barry tackle which was a straight red all day and he was gesturing to Marriner about foot up 4-5 times.

Love the relationship between Barry and McCarthy.

Both know that if the other is rolling around on the floor they have been clobbered hard, whether intentional or not. They then express this view forcefully to the ref - very protective of each other.

Couldn't agree more. Don't see it enough in modern day football and as far as I'm concerned is a great sign

Makes me laugh how his simple passes look to piss him off. The way he kicks the ball for a short pass. He does it everytime.

passing pisses him off

He's very quietly becoming a key part of our team.

I don't really have much more to say about him but I mean that in a good way. He's learning from Barry, too, which is clear. Only criticism I'd have is I'd like to see him contribute a bit more going forward.

Every team needs a player like McCarthy.

He is our Ramires, our Kroos, our Keane even.

Like others have said, if he can add a bit more going forward he will become a complete midfielder.

Lovely picture, a young James McCarthy with his hero Lee Carsley back in 2002.
