Everyone loves Watson as he’s a nice bloke and won a cup. He wasn’t even close to jags or lescott or even distin for footballing ability.

You wouldn't be saying that if you'd watched the cup final. Especially compared to Distins trip to Wembley with us.

He was the player you wanted in the team when things got tough. He never stopped fighting, and was easily twice the captain jags ever was. He also had a goal or two in him.

Each to,their own but it's Watson every time for me . League and fa cup winner and a all out defender he was the backbone of are team for years . I suppose the way I look at it is in our champion winning team team of 1987 would jags lesscott or distinct get in that team it's a big no from me big Dave was a leader and a winner

So. James McCarthy then..
I hope he proves his fitness and stays here, if not go to another club and prove your ability there, best of luck James no matter how it turns out.

Dave Watson great player and captain who gave 100% in every game he played, Jags was a good player and won the toss now and again as captain, Lescott’s goals blinded some fans to his ability as a player, not bad and we got twice what he worth off City, so he deserves a pat on the back for that.

Dave Watson may not have had the footballing skills but what he did have was a toughness you do not see anymore. He gave it he took it and if he had broke his neck he would have still played on. The types of CBs have moved on now but for pure defensive ability and toughness it would be hard to look beyond Dave Watson. Always remember when Graeme Sharp was having a purple patch for us and Norwich came to town and Sharpy got owned by Watson despite Sharpy giving Watson a big gash on his head. Was Sharpys hardest game to date and his form from that match dipped badly enough to be dropped for a good while.

£10m for McCarthy has got to be good business.
