James McCarthy

Looking forward to Moshiri's statement after we sell Gueye on deadline day.. "when I bought into Everton, I made it clear I was proud to join a family. And we don't turn our backs on our own. Keeping James McCarthy was a priority and ultimately we could not keep a player that would jeopardize his place at Everton. We wish Idrissa the best."

Presented in notes on Jim White's iphone of course.

I think that’s a really fair point but you’re reliant on a confidence the player will perform on loan , if he doesn’t the price is only going one way .

I dont disagree mate but you also have to factor in the players self interest, Mccarthy for example could find himself out of contact soon and with a long history of injury behind him could struggle to earn a contract elsewhere and or similar terms. Its in the players interest to perform in the long term, in that sitaution.

Scnhnederlin is a bit different he has two years into his contract so has a fair bit to run, it depends if he wants to sit on his backside for a few years or has a motivation to play again. His is a tricky situation as at this stage we need to get 15 mill to break even, we could accept lower depending on the deal if it got his wage of the bill, but we are still crystallizing a loss. Nothing really to loose by sending him out on a loan really, for him and us. His book price then next year would be about 10 mill.

Even if he makes a comeback he was flawed as a CM. He couldn't hack it when he was fit he's not all of a sudden going to be like the next Peter Reid after a double leg break. So forget him....mind you the right manager just could get a tune out of him....hmmm...nar EFC don't appoint the right managers...

For a short time but then would be injured again and we dont know how his long term injury has affected him

He needs to be sold...or loaned till summer to save wages.

There are about 10 players who need to go before James McCarthy, he at least is a useful player when fit. Silva has said he wants to keep him until the end of the season at the least.

Can you name 10 players in the current side who we should sell before McCarthy this window...?

Most of them are out on loan.

Ergo there arent 10 players who should be sold before McCarthy as they cant be sold this window :)

I like him but hes going to do his hamstring again + we dont know if hes another Coleman e.g finished at the top level.

Has to go in the next 10 days.

We don't know that about Coleman, that's just your opinion.

McCarthy should've been an option in midfield today, our midfield was like an open door today.

Peter Reid only became the Peter Reid we know and love after a succession of injuries threatened his career. Lost best part of 5 seasons IIRC. But, hey, let's not let the facts get in the way.
