You could say that about a lot of players though and he's not going to fix our lack of creativity in the middle by offering forward passes and/or dynamic movement.

Clearly he'll offer more in terms of tenacity and determination that Morgan, but in terms of footballing ability he's below him; merely an alternative for him or Gana.

No mate. Just a few months back he transformed us with his approach, he gets the crowd up. He chases and bites, he throws tackles in. He brings energy that otherwise just isn't there.
 
Before his hamstring problems, he was pretty good in the engine room. There's never any fuzz with him, like that

I don't disagree with any of that for like I mentioned he offers tenacity, determination and grit. Nevertheless, our real main problems remains our lack of creativity.

How many times were our central partnership simply bypassed because they play crab football between themselves and don't actually move the ball forward?

For me, McCarthy isn't going to fix the glaringly large issue which we've had for ages, and as such I stand by my comment that he isn't our best central midfielder.

He has a role to play of course against certain opposition where you need that kind of player, but in the long run I don't think he is, or should be, a pivotal player.
 
I hope he get back fit and stays that way. When on he’s good midfielder, and Id have him on over all our other midfielders atm.
 
Great, so can we sell him quickly before he injures himself again.
Such a shame we have had short sighted managers, we could have gotten 20 million for him last season but decided to hold onto him for what we all knew was coming: another injury.

To be fair, he was seemingly over the nagging hamstring injury, which is the type of injury that needs to heal properly or else it'll always be there to reoccur.

Then he goes and breaks his leg in a situation that quite frankly no one else in our squad would have made - he was shot out of cannon to stop Rondon from taking that shot. That's bad luck, not an "injury prone" type of injury

He should have had some time off to further ensure the hamstring is fully healed. If he comes back from the leg break the way Seamus has, then he certainly can have a part to play for us.

Noone saw that nasty leg break coming.
 
Give him a job of sitting deep, being disruptive, winning tackles and intercepting passes and basically just being a snidey nuisance to the opposition and he's great. Works hard and isn't a shithouse. Offers good protection to the back 4, but don't expect him to ping pinpoint defence splitting passes all day long, cos that's not his game.
