James McCarthy

He had a good initial six months. In six years.

The rest of the time he was either injured - sometimes via his own stupidity - or doing the best crab impression I've ever seen from a footballer.

Good luck to him and so on, don't wish him badly at all, but as an Evertonian I'm delighted he's gone as he was a waste of money.

I mean, he was great the entire first season. He was rested for that Palace (ironically) home game and resting him pretty much ended our top-four hopes when we were well in the hunt.

For the next two seasons he was good when he played. Martinez rushed him back in 14-15 and set him back. A shame.

The leg-break was obviously the final blow. I have no ill feeling at all. A good player for us and in the last few seasons, more unfortunate than anything. Wish we could have got rid earlier but he simply wasn't fit.

If your a palace fan you would be fuming, potentially losing your best player and Cahill and Mccarthy are ready to be in you starting 11.

I actually feel bad for them

He was an important squad player for us under Roberto and it was a success back then when we got him to resign. Anyway, he had an unfortunate future ever since.

Mac and cheese on toast I guess.

Was great, became crap, injuries didn’t help him. Apparently stopped pulling his weight in training. Hope the 8.5 mil figure touted by Sky is accurate but even then I’d guess that a lot of that is add ons which are triggered by number of appearances, so we wouldn’t be seeing that money anyway.

Yep.. this my my take before the first season was over even... by half way through his second I was very frustrated with him and hated seeing his name on the team sheet.
I always said.. James would beat 2 players just to be able to play the ball back to defence.
For me James was a victim of RMs bias. He often kept him on too long (Arsenal when we were 2 up with 10 to go) or played him when out of form.. he was undroppable and this hurt a lot of his performances as well and cost the team in quite a few.

Good luck though ... hope his troubles are behind him.
