Cheers K, I knew I hadn't imagined it

It was versus Hammers at Goodison last season.
Don't see what this guy offers. He's not terrible at anything but he's not actually very good at anything either. He just.........exists.
we used to have similar discussions years ago about lee carsley, some folks couldnt see what he added as expansive passes and flashy stuff wasnt his game. He used to make us tick, and stopped the opposition from playing, all under the radar stuff unless you look for it. We really noticed Carsley when he wasnt there, Garner is in the same mould. You actually need those players in a side though. A solid 7 every week that carry other players. Cogs in the machine.
He's missed half a season, came back straight into the first team and we see an up turn in form. Him and Gana work well as a midfield two and considering neither are big powerful midfield players they both compete and make us work as a unit.
You can nit-pick things in his game but when you compare we sold Onana for £50mill based IMO purely on his physical attributes (and supposed ceiling) rather than his consistency and effectiveness (Garner had better stats than him last season and he's not 1st choice for Villa)...you can see why he's a valuable player to have IMO.
Iām not sure thatās right really. Carsley was a disciplined deep lying midfielder who loved a tackle. He wasnāt a flashy player but I think we all knew exactly what he offered (and my memory is that he was well loved for it). I think the point being made is that garner isnāt really like that, heās sort of a decent bits and pieces player but he doesnāt have a clear niche in the way someone like Carsley did.we used to have similar discussions years ago about lee carsley, some folks couldnt see what he added as expansive passes and flashy stuff wasnt his game. I think you are recalling it differently to me, at the time there were plenty of people who couldnt see what carsley offeredIām not sure thatās right really. Couldnāt see what he offered or just thought we could improve on him? People used to refer to āthe Carsley roleā which suggests it was pretty well established what he was there to do. Iām not sure anybody would define a position by using Garnerās name.I think you are recalling it differently to me, at the time there were plenty of people who couldnt see what carsley offered
Except when Garner isn't in the team we don't notice. Carsley was a far superior player.we used to have similar discussions years ago about lee carsley, some folks couldnt see what he added as expansive passes and flashy stuff wasnt his game. They both make us work as unit to a degree, Garner just doesnt do anything good for me its all ok ish, we need more, we need better. You actually need those players in a side though. A solid 7 every week that carry other players. Cogs in the machine.

Not got a clue what he is doing for itā¦.Rooted to the spot for some reason for their first goal, should be closing that down. Shame, thought he was good defensively before that.
