Unless they foresee him as the next Kevin De Bruyne, this isn’t necessarily true. I do agree that he should be mainly utilized as a central midfielder. Doesn’t hurt to have a versatile guy that can step in and spare you from the likes of Holgate and Godfrey

But that’s exact what’s stopped their development; becoming a Jack of all trades and a master of none

The lad is a great ball playing midfielder, let him develop and become the best he can be

Delighted for him. Hell of an achievement to win a major U21 tournament like this - especially for an English player. Not a lot of silverware at any level.

Nice to have cover for a few positions with Jimmy, but he’s a cm by trade and is best there - a classy footballer.

Could he be our next Bertie Harper - if he’s half as good as Bertie, we will have done alright.

Yeah, I remember it well. 2017.

Just had a look at that team to see how many are regulars in the national side, and it's pretty surprising reading:

England U20: Woodman (Newcastle), Clarke-Salter (Chelsea), Tomori (Chelsea), Walker-Peters (Tottenham), Kenny (Everton), Cook (Bournemouth), Calvert-Lewin (Everton), Onomah (Tottenham), Solanke (Chelsea), Lookman (Everton), Dowell (Everton).

Doesn't suggest the pathway is working for everyone. Fingers crossed Garner can buck that trend.

I also remember watching that game and being amazed at the number of double barrel names.
I think that in addition to Clarke-Salter, Walker-Peters and Calvert-Lewin, Maitland-Niles was also involved (maybe on the bench).
